The Other Side Of Me

I made a card last week for my manager, who turned 40.  A very important moment in a girl's life, I'm sure you'll agree!  I knew I wanted to use numbers on the card and cruised around looking for what I had in mind.  I used a card by Debby Hughes which you can see here. I used a different embossing folder.  I love this one as it's 5x7" like most of my cards.  The colour is River Rock.  I cut out the numbers with my new MFT dies and covered them in glitter glue, which you can't really see here.  I don't use glitter very often at all, but if you can't have a bit of bling when you're 40, when can you?! I've put them on a cut out using my labels collection framelits to cut out a piece of textured cardstock in Pretty in Pink and then drawn round the same frame on white cardstock and cut it out by hand.  I typed the wording on the computer and cut it out after printing it off, making it into a banner.  I've popped on a couple of pink ...

The girl on our yard finally gave birth to a 9lb baby girl (good grief!) so I was poised to make a card.  Then it actually took two days to make.  When you see it, you'll wonder why, so I'd better explain...  I decided to use lots of pink, put it all in place, with the baby image on top and didn't like it at all.  It was just too, well, pink!  I'd decided to base it on the ribbon I was going to use, and this beautiful ribbon kept falling out of my box (shouting, "Pick me!  Pick me!") and suddenly everything came together: It turns out the colour is Elegant Eggplant and I've hardly ever used it, but it's perfect for this card.  I know you think you're seeing spots before your eyes, but I felt I had a theme going there for a minute!  The cute image is from LOTV but everything else is SU.  I'm thrilled with the dotty bottom part as I used my Dot Dot Dot stamp with my SAMJ and it lined up perfectly.  I suddenly remembered the Four Frames ...

I've recently made another card for one of the residents.  She is 91 tomorrow.  This card caused me some problems.  The first problem is that the recipient is blind.  So my first instinct was to just go and buy a musical card.  Except that this lady is also deaf.  So that's no good. So then I thought: She needs a card that's interesting to touch.  So this is what I made: It's a 6x6" white card base.  The second layer is some Pretty In Pink cardstock, embossed using a flowery embossing folder.  Next is a layer of white textured card.  Then there is the top square which is glossy card.  I've embossed the flower (from Little Claire's Designs) in white (kraft) ink, then added white embossing powder and heated it.  Then I've gone over it with Pretty In Pink ink, straight from the little cube.  I am thrilled that it worked.  I added a little smudge of a darker pink in the centre with a sponge dauber. A friend of mine has asked for a card for her mum, so this is what I made: I have CASEd it from Marisa's card here,  (I checked and it deffo says you can case her stuff!)  I am going through a phase of loving this whole thing of a sentiment with a lot of white space, but on a scalloped shape, so there may be more of these to come.  It's really made me realise I don't have many exciting sentiment stamps.  I'll have to rectify that, won't I? (*Giggles*!) In our Wednesday night craft group we have been given a list of all the members' birthdays so we all make cards for each other.  It is Jo's birthday today, and this is what I made for her: The cardstock is Rose Red, which I've put through my Bigshot in a flourish embossing folder.  I'm sorry, I've never known what it's called as it came in the post last year, with another one, with no address of the sender (and I didn't order it!) so it's a bit of a mystery.  It's a very pretty folder, though. I've used my lovely Flight of the Butterfly stamp set.  I had such fun playing with this. I stamped the sentiment first, which says 'hope your day is as happy as happy gets', then stamped the plain butterfly in Pretty In Pink ink then stamped over it (using my SAMJ) with the little flowered butterfly which I didn't notice until after I'd done it, is the stamp with the butterfly's body on it.  The little strip of scalloped paper is ...

Oh boy, I hope I haven't over-egged this yesterday, and you're all disappointed with what you see! I was asked to make a card for a friend's mum, who is 81.  Because she is an Alzheimer's sufferer, she never knows how old she is, so my friend asked me to put her age on it.  The chances of finding a card in the shops with 81 on are slim, aren't they? So here's the card: I need to make it clear that I'm not saying the card itself is in any way exceptional. The bit that brought tears to my eyes is the stamped image: As I said yesterday, being told that you're not in the least bit artistic, makes it all the more thrilling when you produce something like this. This is from the truly awesome stamp set called Simply Soft, and it's beautiful.  I stamped the stem and outer part of the leaves in Wild Wasabi, then got the stamp that has the 'inner' of the petals.  I inked it in Rose Red first and stamped it onto my Stamp-a-ma-jig, as when I did i...

I do love it when it's time to make a christening card, as I get to pull out this beautiful image from LOTV: The card is 5x7 and I've used a strip of Pretty In Pink cardstock down the left hand side, that's been put through my scallop punch.  The patterned paper is by October Afternoon, and blends perfectly with the pinks I've  used here.  I've backed the stamped image and the sentiment with Melon Mambo.  Altogether it's turned out to be a very harmonious card, with everything working well together.  I've used lots of pink Promarkers to colour the stained glass window in the background and the baby's dress, and I'm very pleased with the result. And now, bizaarely, I'm off to make a Christmas card or two (because you'd do that in January, wouldn't you?)
