Card for Peter

Image
I've been dying to ink up my 'Feeling Sentimental' stamp set.  I knew this year I would only be able to afford one Sale-a-Bration item, and decided fairly quickly that this had to be it: I realised after I'd made this that I'd missed a perfect chance here, because Peter used to be a policeman, so I wondered if it would have been better with the phone box on it (I could have done it in blue, couldn't I?)  I saw a version of this card on Pinterest a while ago by Diana Gibbs and knew it would be one to make. I don't think I was concentrating fully when I made this as I didn't absorb that Diana hadn't embossed the whole white piece!  I decided to go with what I'd done and it made a nice variation on the original.  I was thrilled to have the linen thread and ribbon to make the little tag detail at the top.  The colours are Riding Hood Red and Early Espresso, so that's the last of my Riding Hood Red gone.  I only had two sheets of it s...

Card Swap Group No. 2

Image
Hello, sorry I am a bit late with this post, peeps, but April turned out to be a very hectic month, with cardmaking and everything else. Quite early in April I received this fab card from Margaret King, as part of our card swaps: Sorry the photo doesn't do it justice really, you can get a better look at it and see all the details (and the fun Margaret had making it!) here .  She is a very talented crafter and her blog is well worth a perusal.  I love her style, she is the queen of the neutral card! This is a lovely combination of Early Espresso and Pool Party, which I'm definitely going to have to play with very soon.  Thankyou Margaret, it's such a lovely card.   It was also Margaret's birthday in April, so the whole group made her a card.  This is what I came up with: Remember, I'm making this for someone who loves her neutrals, so it was with a sweating brow I pulled this stamp out for the first time.  The stamp is from the Po...

Mary, Mary!

Hello all! Just popping in with a quick post today. I've seen some beautiful colour combinations recently and had to have a go at some of my own.  I wanted to make a card for my Floor Manager at work, and this is what I came up with: It's a Z fold card made using Baja Breeze cardstock.  I inked up my Summer Silhouettes stamp set and away I went.  The colours are Early Espresso, Baja Breeze and Crumb Cake.  This was such a simple card to make.  The dsp is part of the Twitterpated set and the Happy Birthday is from the old Elementary Elegance stamp set.  A very sweet combo, I'm sure you'll agree. Well I think that's it really, thanks for looking in today.  Maybe you'll give these colours a try. Back soon with some card swaps. Jane xx

French Foliage

Image
Oh my, I am head over heels in love with a new stamp set.  I made this card last week for a resident: This French Foliage stamp set has got to be one of the most versatile I've ever come across.  There is no limit to what you can do with it. The base card is more mustard. The next layer is very vanilla. I've stamped the script stamp in crumb cake on it, then the leaf in more mustard with early espresso rolled round the edges before stamping, which creates a fabulous effect.  I've made the tag and stamped a small section of very vanilla cardstock again.  I've used the little 'Paris' stamp on this piece and the ink blotch stamp in more mustard.  Every time I stamped something I gasped at how fab it was as it appeared on the paper.  I bet everyone who has this stamp set feels the same way about it.  It's by far the most 'artistic' set I've ever used. The tag has a button and twine at the top and a little butterfly on the sentiment o...

Tea Time Treats Again

Image
Hello, everyone, are you as fed up with this wet weather as I am?  Every time I step outside it's pouring.  Last Saturday  we went through a river and the water was up over my ankles.  I wouldn't mind, but I was riding Barnaby at the time! Still, the wet weather gives us an excuse to get some crafting done, doesn't it? I've come across another couple of cards that we made at the workshop a little while ago which I thought I'd share with you today.  So, here's one I made earlier: The 12"x12" papers are so lovely, so many interesting bits to use.  The colour scheme is: Pink Pirouette Early Espresso Lucky Limeade Some of the items use Pool Party too, like on this card: As before, I prepped as much as possible during the workshop, then put everything together at home, but the 'Just for you' sentiment stamp is my own.  You may have realised that I take very little urging to put a tag on a card, so these two were perfect for me. I had...

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

Image
Hello fellow stampers, I hope you're all well.  I'd like to say a special hello to my new followers.  Thankyou for joining me on my journey of discovery.  I've only been making cards for a couple of years, so lots of things are still very new to me, so you'll have to bear with me if you think I'm teaching granny to suck eggs! Don't you find some cards are very quick to make, and some can take all day?  I've been working on one of the 'all-day' ones.  In fact it took two days, as half way through I gave up and went to bed! Anyway, here's the end result: It was well worth the effort in the end!  I have been looking around for a bird cage die for ages.  This one is by Tim Holtz.  I dithered because it's quite big, but it was lovely to use.  I've cut watercolour paper as it's quite thick, nearly as good as chipboard.  At first I left it in it's natural state, but it was too pale, so I've coloured it with Early Espresso marker...

ColourQ Challenge #126 and St Luke's

Image
Good morning all!  We seem to have slipped temporarily back into winter this morning.  There was snow yesterday and ice everywhere today.  My poor horses don't know whether they're coming or going! My mojo is well and truly up and running and I've decided to combine two challenges today.  The first one is the ColourQ challenge .  I try to join in with this whenever they use colours I've got.  Here is this week's inspiration:       This is certainly a colour palette I can relate to. The other challenge is the St Luke's Charity Card challenge.   I did promise myself I'd have a go every month this year, but I haven't been able to until now.  It's for such a worthy cause, though, I'm so pleased I can enter this month.  They want to see cards with a spring theme.  You're probably already thinking how you could combine these two challenges yourself, so here is my take on it: All the colours used...

Tea Time Treats

Image
Hello everyone, I hope you're having a good week so far. As you know, I spent all day Saturday at a cardmaking workshop.  I'm finally able to show you a couple of cards that we made. We used the Stampin Up! Simply Scrappin set called Tea Time.  Although I've glanced at this set in the catalogue (UK p101) it's not something I'd buy, so it was great fun having the opportunity to work with it.  The colours used are Pink Pirouette, Early Espresso, Pool Party and Lucky Limeade.  Being SU, of course, everything works perfectly together. The way it worked was this:  Both organisers, Jo and Ann, made seven cards each.  They were put out on two tables, with a worksheet telling us how to make each one.  So we could go and collect a card from the table and make it there and then if we wanted to.  But if you decided to make each card in its entirety, you'd only get a few made in the alloted time. SO:  the trick is to take each card, read th...
