I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

Hello fellow stampers, I hope you're all well.  I'd like to say a special hello to my new followers.  Thankyou for joining me on my journey of discovery.  I've only been making cards for a couple of years, so lots of things are still very new to me, so you'll have to bear with me if you think I'm teaching granny to suck eggs!
Don't you find some cards are very quick to make, and some can take all day?  I've been working on one of the 'all-day' ones.  In fact it took two days, as half way through I gave up and went to bed!
Anyway, here's the end result:
It was well worth the effort in the end!  I have been looking around for a bird cage die for ages.  This one is by Tim Holtz.  I dithered because it's quite big, but it was lovely to use.  I've cut watercolour paper as it's quite thick, nearly as good as chipboard.  At first I left it in it's natural state, but it was too pale, so I've coloured it with Early Espresso marker.  I cut out the bird, brushed it with Baja Breeze, then stamped it with my LOTV music stamp.  I cut a doily in Lucky Limeade and put it through the Bigshot with a polkadot ef.  I stamped two tickets, then added 'Wish Big' on one and the key on the other.  I couldn't decide which one I liked best, so I decided to use both.  To be honest, the backing paper was my starting point.  It was free with my magazine last month, and it's really pretty. 
This card satisfied my urge to make something with layers without adding too much for the card to fit into an envelope.  I still have a soft spot for this romantic style  (it always reminds me of something you might come across in your granny's attic) and think I'll try to make something like it once a month.

    A really lovely card, Jane. I like this style too. Mind you I love most styles but just can't get the hang of doing some of them lol, especially the "fussy" ones with lots of ribbon and lace!!

    Most of my cards seem to be taking ages these days regardless of how complicated they are. Could do with a few days where I churn a few out!
    This is stunning! I love that bird cage and how you've layered it with a doily. Fab!

Hi folks, hope you're having a good weekend.  I can hardly believe I'm posting again so soon, but I really wanted to get this card on before it's too late. Here are another couple of challenge blogs I've been following since just before Christmas, but I haven't had enough supplies to be able to join in.  The first one is the Colour Q challenge  which as you can see, wants us to use the colours shown in the picture, put together beautifully in the skirt.  I don't have any of the Stampin Up! In Colours yet, so this is the first time I've been able to have a go.  The second challenge blog is Freshly Made Sketches.  I saw this and wondered if I could combine the two challenges. And so here is my card: First of all, I rotated the sketch, I just couldn't work it that way up! I decided to use a kraft card base, and stamped the image (sorry I can't remember the name of it) which I'd inked up in Old Olive, Real Red and More Mustard.

Freshly Made Sketches No. 22

I've had one of those conversations with lovely, lovely hubby.  You know the sort: DH: Can you make me a birthday card for work, please? Me: Of course darling, who's it for? DH: (In a voice of doom) A male colleague  (Cue thunder and lightening!) Me: (Swallowing) No problem.  When do you want it by? DH: (Casually) Tomorrow. Me: You're 'avin a larf! But have I let the situation defeat me?  No, I have not!  But I would like to say a huge thankyou to Freshly Made Sketches , for coming up with one of the most wonderful, and inspiring, sketches I've ever seen. This is what they've given us to work with: And this is the card I made using the sketch: I actually made a prototype card first, just using paper, as there was quite a lot of measuring to work out before I put everything together.  The card is 5x7" but then I went into metric for everything else (The joys of going to school in the '70's!) Dynamic Duos No. 1

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a great Bank Holiday weekend (here in the UK), even if it is raining! Now, many of you probably already know Lesley Croghan, owner of the wonderful Always Playing With Paper blog, who runs her Merry Monday challenge from there.  If you don't, you certainly should pop over when you get time. Anyway, she's now hosting a new challenge, called Dynamic Duos, which you can find here : Her first colour choice is Pool Party and Lucky Limeade, and I couldn't resist having a go.  This is what I've made: The base is 5x7" in Very Vanilla.  (Neutrals are allowed, thank goodness!)  Then I've taken a piece of watercolour card, which is very similar to the vanilla, with the addition of a lovely texture.  I've punched out a flower using my Posy Punch, very close to the edge, so it leaves a gap.  I've put dimensionals on the back of the water colour paper and stuck it onto one of the sheets from the Everyday Enchantment
