Card For Sketch Saturday Challenge

I really liked the sketch over at Sketch Saturday this week, and again I've decided to use it to get a Christmas card done.  Here we are:
The sketch is quite unusual and I really had to think about how to do the bit in the middle that's in red.  In the end I cut it out with a little tiny join in the middle which you can't see as it's under the stamped image.  I followed the sketch very closely and instead of getting things ready beforehand I just decided to go with the flow.  Each time I saw an element on the sketch I decided to add something to my card to represent it, hence the snowflakes and the two little tags with stockings stamped on.  I just felt it worked really well that the little girl is looking at a robin and the backing papers have robins on.  My favourite bit was making the snowflakes.  I wiped a Versamark ink pad all over a big section of card, then sprinkled white embossing powder all over it.  I heated the powder until it set, then cut snowflakes out from it using my Marianne die.  The effect is really lovely, it really looks like snow.
The only thing that didn't please me is that I stamped and coloured the image on normal card instead of the super smooth stuff I normally use.  I felt this card showed too many colouring marks and have decided not to use it again. You live and learn, don't you?

Recipe:
Stamp: Little Claire Designs 'A Little Bird Told Me'
DSP: My Mind's Eye 'Snowed In'
Sentiment: Little Claire Designs (love these!)
Red Pearls: Wild Orchid Crafts
All other embellishments from stash

Thanks for looking in today.  Your comments really brighten my little crafting world, so let me know what you think.  I'm off to do some cross-stitch.

  1. Lovely card, Jane. I must try the embossing and then cutting it out, sounds really good. I see that you're making good use of your papers, mine are still in the wrapper along with the chip boards. I've got so many of the 6 x 6 pads from magazines, I'll never use them all. I think a journey to ebay is required :o) Mind you I did put some cards on last week and didn't sell any of them. I suppose the reason for that is they were all only viewed the one time. Looks as though I'll be giving the cards as Christmas gifts this year

  6. Your card works perfectly because all the elements look as if they're meant to be together. I like the predominantly red and white colour combination too. Vx

  7. What a pretty card! It makes me feel all "Christmasy!"

Like the card below as well. You've captured a masculine spirit even with a gentle message. Nicely done.
