I'm Back!

Wow, it's been an incredibly busy couple of months since I was last on here.  I've completed my coursework (I'm the only one that's done it!) and can now concentrate on cardmaking again in my free time.  I can't tell you how much I've missed it, it shows how important a part of my life it's become.
I did have a fantastic time doing some card making with the residents at work yesterday.  I was awake all night thinking what to do and decided to keep it really simple, just basic stamping and punching with the Posy Punch, but they were fascinated by it.  I suppose if you've never seen anything like it before (bearing in mind most of the residents are well into their 80's) it is a bit stunning, isn't it?  They had great fun turning the handle of my Texture Boutique and couldn't believe how the embossed card came out.  They were thrilled with what they made, so I think it'll be a regular fixture in their calendar from now on.  It was joyous to see the looks on their faces when they proudly showed each other their creations.  It just goes to show that crafting is for anyone of any age, doesn't it?
I've had a little bit of time to do some card making myself, fortunately.  This is one of my very recent creations:
I love the way these colours work together, which are Cajun Craze and Peach Parfait.  It's my first go with this colour and I've fallen in love with it.  In fact, what's happened is, I've fallen in love with last year's In Colours when it's nearly too late!  You'll probably recognise the stamps I've used from the Elementary Elegance stamp set.  I'm so glad I bought this now, I can see myself using it for years. 
Well I'd better go and jump in the shower and get ready for work.  Before I go I'd just like to say how wonderful it's been keeping up with all of your amazing blogs while I've been off, it's really kept me going.  Keep up the good work, you're an inspiration (you know who you are!)

    My kind of colours... just lovely! I love this stamp set too and often find myself turning to it. That frame can work with all manner of things :) I loved hearing about you sharing your crafting talents at work -- we really do have an amazing hobby, don't we?

    How lovely that you're back - you have been missed. It sounds like the last couple of months have been really busy for you, and how delightful that you can share your crafting love with the residents.

    I agree that crafting is just brilliant for any ages, and what a clever girl you are keeping them occupied and loving it.

Congratulations on completing your coursework, you must feel a great sense of satisfaction. Colour Q Challenge # 121 and Freshly Made Sketches # 19

Hi folks, hope you're having a good weekend.  I can hardly believe I'm posting again so soon, but I really wanted to get this card on before it's too late. Here are another couple of challenge blogs I've been following since just before Christmas, but I haven't had enough supplies to be able to join in.  The first one is the Colour Q challenge  which as you can see, wants us to use the colours shown in the picture, put together beautifully in the skirt.  I don't have any of the Stampin Up! In Colours yet, so this is the first time I've been able to have a go.  The second challenge blog is Freshly Made Sketches.  I saw this and wondered if I could combine the two challenges. And so here is my card: First of all, I rotated the sketch, I just couldn't work it that way up! I decided to use a kraft card base, and stamped the image (sorry I can't remember the name of it) which I'd inked up in Old Olive, Real Red and More Mustard.

Freshly Made Sketches No. 22

I've had one of those conversations with lovely, lovely hubby.  You know the sort: DH: Can you make me a birthday card for work, please? Me: Of course darling, who's it for? DH: (In a voice of doom) A male colleague  (Cue thunder and lightening!) Me: (Swallowing) No problem.  When do you want it by? DH: (Casually) Tomorrow. Me: You're 'avin a larf! But have I let the situation defeat me?  No, I have not!  But I would like to say a huge thankyou to Freshly Made Sketches , for coming up with one of the most wonderful, and inspiring, sketches I've ever seen. This is what they've given us to work with: And this is the card I made using the sketch: I actually made a prototype card first, just using paper, as there was quite a lot of measuring to work out before I put everything together.  The card is 5x7" but then I went into metric for everything else (The joys of going to school in the '70's!) I cut a 7cm x 7cm square in white card

Dynamic Duos No. 1

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a great Bank Holiday weekend (here in the UK), even if it is raining! Now, many of you probably already know Lesley Croghan, owner of the wonderful Always Playing With Paper blog, who runs her Merry Monday challenge from there.  If you don't, you certainly should pop over when you get time. Anyway, she's now hosting a new challenge, called Dynamic Duos, which you can find here : Her first colour choice is Pool Party and Lucky Limeade, and I couldn't resist having a go.  This is what I've made: The base is 5x7" in Very Vanilla.  (Neutrals are allowed, thank goodness!)  Then I've taken a piece of watercolour card, which is very similar to the vanilla, with the addition of a lovely texture.  I've punched out a flower using my Posy Punch, very close to the edge, so it leaves a gap.  I've put dimensionals on the back of the water colour paper and stuck it onto one of the sheets from the Everyday Enchantment
