One Of A Kind

Hello all, I hope it's not too wet and windy where you are.  I'm not keen if I have to be outside, but don't mind snuggling up in front of the fire with a good book, or some cross stitch and a cat on my lap. 
I am feeling flushed with success as I'm pretty sure we've done all the Christmas shopping today, so now I have the mammoth task of wrapping everything and making tags!
Here's a card I'd like to share with you today:

This card is unique because the white and blue dotty paper is my last ever piece of the Craftwork Cards vintage range.  It was perfect for this card.  I've cut the scalloped circle and trapped a die cut snowflake inside vellum and added it to the vertical strip.  The snowflake top left is Perfect Plum and the scalloped circle is Rose Red, two beautiful Stampin Up! colours.  The sentiment is from Craftwork Cards, too.  I was thrilled to be able to die cut a little circle, punch two small holes in it and make my own button.  It looks really good IRL.
I am making a gradual transition towards Stampin Up! products so that every time I run out of something I am replacing it with the SU version.  Although I've enjoyed making Christmas cards this year, I've found it quite stressful trying to think which patterened papers go together and am more than willing to let SU take the hard work out of it for me! 
A woman in my knitting group goes to a craft group where the participants have depression and other problems.  They really find that crafting relieves their problems, as you can imagine.  As it's a charity I thought it would be a good idea to donate all the bits and bobs I no longer need, so they can add to their own stash and help more people.  Brainwave, I think!  I am not a cluttered crafter, I like to be organised and know where everything is, so this will give me more space to get better organised.
Anyway, enough of my rambling, I'm off to read all your blogs and flick through some magazines for ideas for Christmas gift tags.

    Lovely card, Jane. I hate using the last piece of a paper that I love. If I have scraps that I can cut an inch square from I stick them onto a piece of copier paper to make a "quilt" backing paper. I tend to do a few sheets with different colour combos. I used some on a card on my blog here http://christianchickcrafts.blogspot.com/2011/06/couple-of-cards.html
    That might be an idea for the craft group to do something similar, creating their own backing papers and keeping costs down.

    This is a gorgeous card Jane! I love your snowflake embellishments - especially your clever idea of trapping a die cut in a vellum sandwich. I agree that crafting is very therapeutic and how lovely of you to donate the stash you no longer need to a help group. Vx

Hi folks, hope you're having a good weekend.  I can hardly believe I'm posting again so soon, but I really wanted to get this card on before it's too late. Here are another couple of challenge blogs I've been following since just before Christmas, but I haven't had enough supplies to be able to join in.  The first one is the Colour Q challenge  which as you can see, wants us to use the colours shown in the picture, put together beautifully in the skirt.  I don't have any of the Stampin Up! In Colours yet, so this is the first time I've been able to have a go.  The second challenge blog is Freshly Made Sketches.  I saw this and wondered if I could combine the two challenges. And so here is my card: First of all, I rotated the sketch, I just couldn't work it that way up! I decided to use a kraft card base, and stamped the image (sorry I can't remember the name of it) which I'd inked up in Old Olive, Real Red and More Mustard.

Freshly Made Sketches No. 22

I've had one of those conversations with lovely, lovely hubby.  You know the sort: DH: Can you make me a birthday card for work, please? Me: Of course darling, who's it for? DH: (In a voice of doom) A male colleague  (Cue thunder and lightening!) Me: (Swallowing) No problem.  When do you want it by? DH: (Casually) Tomorrow. Me: You're 'avin a larf! But have I let the situation defeat me?  No, I have not!  But I would like to say a huge thankyou to Freshly Made Sketches , for coming up with one of the most wonderful, and inspiring, sketches I've ever seen. This is what they've given us to work with: And this is the card I made using the sketch: I actually made a prototype card first, just using paper, as there was quite a lot of measuring to work out before I put everything together.  The card is 5x7" but then I went into metric for everything else (The joys of going to school in the '70's!) Dynamic Duos No. 1

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a great Bank Holiday weekend (here in the UK), even if it is raining! Now, many of you probably already know Lesley Croghan, owner of the wonderful Always Playing With Paper blog, who runs her Merry Monday challenge from there.  If you don't, you certainly should pop over when you get time. Anyway, she's now hosting a new challenge, called Dynamic Duos, which you can find here : Her first colour choice is Pool Party and Lucky Limeade, and I couldn't resist having a go.  This is what I've made: The base is 5x7" in Very Vanilla.  (Neutrals are allowed, thank goodness!)  Then I've taken a piece of watercolour card, which is very similar to the vanilla, with the addition of a lovely texture.  I've punched out a flower using my Posy Punch, very close to the edge, so it leaves a gap.  I've put dimensionals on the back of the water colour paper and stuck it onto one of the sheets from the Everyday Enchantment
