Card For Brenda

I've been asked to make cards for the residents at work for all the staff to sign as various birthdays come up.  I'm a bit sad as I've missed an opportunity to make a card for a lady of 103!  I mean, how often are you going to be asked to do that?!  Unfortunately it was a bit too short notice, so I couldn't do it, which is a shame.
BUT I have recently made a card for a lady who is 90.  Check out what I did:
This card was inspired by one made by Vicky Hayes recently.  You all know how talented she is (and if you haven't been to her blog, what on earth are you waiting for, get over there now!)
I really had to rummage around for some gold cardstock, as it's not something I often use these days, but I felt that a 90th birthday warranted something special.  I played about with silver as well, but plumped for the gold in the end.
The base is a white 5x7" card, but I've used my new 5x7" embossing folder, trimmed it slightly, then stuck it on the card base with a small border all round, but raised up on dimensionals.   Then comes the gold piece with a border embossed down the two long sides.  Then I've stamped Apothecary Art in gold ink and embossed it.  My practise piece actually came out better than my intentional piece, so I used that instead!  I don't think it was the stamp, but the gold ink didn't seem to pick up much embossing powder.  I enjoyed myself anyway, as I haven't heat embossed anything for ages.  I coloured the flowers in Daffodil Delight marker pen.
I printed out Happy 90th Birthday on the computer, having a few goes to get it as big as possible.  Then I used the SAMJ to line up the stamp in gold again and print it over the sentiment, which I then cut out to the exact size I needed and propped it up on dimensionals in the proper place.
The staff were very impressed with the card, but I think they've never seen anything like it before.  I think if my logo hadn't been on the back they wouldn't have believed I'd made it!  The recipient liked it very much, too.

    A beautiful 90th birthday card. I think gold was a great colour choice as it is definitely a big milestone birthday. I love Apothecary Art, and this is my favourite frame out of all of them.

    Hello Jane,
    what a lovely 90th birthday card - the gold makes it so luxurious and special! I'm eagerly awaiting a UPS delivery which will contain an Apothecary Art set, now I've seen your card, I'm even more impatient for the box to arrive!

    Thank you for asking but I don't have anything for sale on eBay at the moment - I may sell more in a few months time though!

Hi folks, hope you're having a good weekend.  I can hardly believe I'm posting again so soon, but I really wanted to get this card on before it's too late. Here are another couple of challenge blogs I've been following since just before Christmas, but I haven't had enough supplies to be able to join in.  The first one is the Colour Q challenge  which as you can see, wants us to use the colours shown in the picture, put together beautifully in the skirt.  I don't have any of the Stampin Up! In Colours yet, so this is the first time I've been able to have a go.  The second challenge blog is Freshly Made Sketches.  I saw this and wondered if I could combine the two challenges. And so here is my card: First of all, I rotated the sketch, I just couldn't work it that way up! I decided to use a kraft card base, and stamped the image (sorry I can't remember the name of it) which I'd inked up in Old Olive, Real Red and More Mustard.

Freshly Made Sketches No. 22

I've had one of those conversations with lovely, lovely hubby.  You know the sort: DH: Can you make me a birthday card for work, please? Me: Of course darling, who's it for? DH: (In a voice of doom) A male colleague  (Cue thunder and lightening!) Me: (Swallowing) No problem.  When do you want it by? DH: (Casually) Tomorrow. Me: You're 'avin a larf! But have I let the situation defeat me?  No, I have not!  But I would like to say a huge thankyou to Freshly Made Sketches , for coming up with one of the most wonderful, and inspiring, sketches I've ever seen. This is what they've given us to work with: And this is the card I made using the sketch: I actually made a prototype card first, just using paper, as there was quite a lot of measuring to work out before I put everything together.  The card is 5x7" but then I went into metric for everything else (The joys of going to school in the '70's!) Dynamic Duos No. 1

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a great Bank Holiday weekend (here in the UK), even if it is raining! Now, many of you probably already know Lesley Croghan, owner of the wonderful Always Playing With Paper blog, who runs her Merry Monday challenge from there.  If you don't, you certainly should pop over when you get time. Anyway, she's now hosting a new challenge, called Dynamic Duos, which you can find here : Her first colour choice is Pool Party and Lucky Limeade, and I couldn't resist having a go.  This is what I've made: The base is 5x7" in Very Vanilla.  (Neutrals are allowed, thank goodness!)  Then I've taken a piece of watercolour card, which is very similar to the vanilla, with the addition of a lovely texture.  I've punched out a flower using my Posy Punch, very close to the edge, so it leaves a gap.  I've put dimensionals on the back of the water colour paper and stuck it onto one of the sheets from the Everyday Enchantment
